ICYMI: Sen. Scott Discusses JUSTICE Act, Police Reform Efforts on TODAY Show

WASHINGTON –U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) joined NBC’s TODAY to discuss his JUSTICE Act and police reform. Senator Scott has been working on this type of legislation since the 2015 murder of Walter Scott.

“I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. I’m sad that it takes another death to get here,” Scott said during the interview.

Senator Scott went on to discuss that as an African American, this issue is one he knows on a personal level. He has been stopped seven times in one year as an elected official. His only offense was driving while black. His experience and great respect for where this country can go makes him the best candidate to lead this charge.

“It’s Americans working together to solve a serious issue that has been running rampant throughout communities of color for far too long,” Senator Scott noted on the interview.

Senator Scott discussed that the JUSTICE Act addresses the need for more body cameras, grants on de-escalation, reports on use of force incidents and shootings, a commission to study issues, the duty to intervene, and anti-lynching laws.
