Scott, Booker Reintroduce Integration of Baseball Commemoration Act Marking the 75th Anniversary of the Integration of Major League Baseball

WASHINGTON—Today, Senators Tim Scott (R-SC) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) reintroduced the Integration of Baseball Commemoration Act, authorizing the United States Mint to produce a coin honoring the 75th anniversary of the integration of Major League Baseball (MLB).

“Throughout modern history, many Americans have turned to our national pastime to celebrate the ideals that define us as a people: hard work, perseverance, and a fierce determination to succeed,” said Senator Scott. “I am honored to pay tribute to the bravery of those baseball legends who, through sports, broke the color line and provided a blueprint for integration through all aspects of society.”

“The integration of Major League Baseball nearly 75 years ago was a historic moment in the advancement of civil rights in the United States,” said Senator Booker. “The Integration of Baseball Commemorative Coin Act will celebrate the brave actions of Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby and the critical role baseball has played in our nation’s history.”

In 1947, Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby were the first African Americans to play in Major League Baseball as professional baseball players. This bipartisan bill commemorates an iconic moment in history that changed the trajectory for minorities wishing to pursue their dreams in professional sports.

Senators Boozman (R-AR) and Capito (R-WV) are also co-sponsors of the Integration of Baseball Commemorative Coin Act.
