Scott Unveils Bill to Help HBCUs at His Annual Fly-In and Black Senators Panel

WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) joined a bipartisan, bicameral coalition of Members of Congress to celebrate America’s more than 100 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Scott released the following statement on today’s events and his HBCU Propelling Agency Relationships Towards a New Era of Results for Students Act (HBCU PARTNERS Act):

“Today was a great way to kick off Black History Month as we welcomed America’s more than 100 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to our nation’s Capital. Black history is American history and we all stand on the shoulders of great men and women who came before us paving a way forward,” said Senator Scott. “I am proud to introduce the HBCU PARTNERS Act with Senator Coons (D-DE) to build off of the President’s 2017 HBCU Executive Order to ensure we are doing our best to unleash the enormous potential of our students.”

During the HBCU Fly-In event, Senator Scott and Senator Coons unveiled their HBCU Propelling Agency Relationships Towards a New Era of Results for Students Act, or HBCU PARTNERS Act. The PARTNERS Act aims to strengthen America’s HBCUs and to bolster their capacity by codifying and building on President Trump’s February 2017 Executive Order on HBCUs. It requires all federal agencies that have share a stake in the HBCU community to submit annual Agency Plans to the Secretary of Education and the Executive Director of the White House Initiative on HBCU. These plans bust outline key goal and objectives within their agency aimed towards furthering HBCU success.

Following the HBCU Fly-In, Senator Scott sat on a panel with past and current African American Senators moderated by Chairman Barry Black. Senators Cowan (MA), Moseley Braun (IL), Burris (IL), Harris (CA), Booker (NJ).
