Scott Supports Stronger Sanctions Against Our Adversaries

Washington – Today, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) voted in support of the Countering America’s Adversaries through Sanctions Act, which seeks to expand existing sanctions on Iran, Russia, and North Korea. The measure passed in the Senate overwhelmingly with a vote of 98-2.

“Congress sent a strong and clear message to our adversaries today that their actions will not be tolerated. The consistent provocations carried out by Russia, Iran, and North Korea have left us no choice but to increase financial sanctions intended to have a significant impact on their economies. I was glad to see the strong bipartisan and bicameral support behind this legislation, and hope that it will be effective in helping to foster peace and stability in some of the more dangerous regions around the world.”

The Senate passed a similar bill, the Countering Iran’s Destabilizing Activities Act, on June 15th of this year, which passed with a vote of 98-2. Sen. Scott is a co-sponsor of the original bill, and he also supported an amendment to the bill that strengthened sanctions against Russia.
