Scott Statement on Former North Charleston Cop Pleading Guilty

Washington — U.S. Senator Tim Scott released the following statement after former North Charleston cop plead guilty in regards to the death of Walter Scott:

“Today marks a new chapter for a family and a community who were left with more questions than answers after months of court proceedings culminated in a mistrial last December. While there is absolutely nothing that can be done to ease the pain of losing a loved one in such a senseless and infuriating manner, I was relieved to see that a guilty plea was officially filed in the case. Like it was said by Walter Scott’s brother, for their family, ‘the healing starts today.’ The Scott family has been patiently waiting for this day. A day that would bring them justice and closure after months of feeling so much pain and anguish. They were relying on the judicial system and I’m thankful for the outcome thus far.”
