Senator Scott Statement on Planned Parenthood Vote

Washington– U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) released the statement below following a vote in the Senate to defund Planned Parenthood. Scott voted for the measure, which failed to meet the 60 vote threshold by a count of53-46.

“With every new video that is released, we see more and more how important it is that Planned Parenthood be defunded. That’s why I helped introduce the important legislation we voted on tonight, and why I want to thank so many of my colleagues for their support on this issue.

While we may have been just a few votes short tonight, we will continue our efforts to protect children and ensure that women’s health remains a priority.”

Last week, Senator Scott joined Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) to introduce the Defund Planned Parenthood Act (S. 1881). The bill would redirect all federal funding currently allocated to Planned Parenthood to other women’s health facilities, such as community health centers. There are more than 150 community health centers in South Carolina providing care for women across the state.
