Senator Scott Congratulates South Carolina’s 2014 National Blue Ribbon Schools

Washington, DC – Senator Tim Scott issued a statement of congratulations today to six South Carolina schools for their selection as a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School. The following South Carolina schools have been honored:
  • Hanahan Elementary School (Hanahan, Berkeley County)
  • Hanahan Middle School (Hanahan, Berkeley County)
  • Royall Elementary School (Florence, Florence County)
  • Prince of Peace Catholic School (Taylors, Greenville County)
  • Socastee Elementary School (Myrtle Beach, Horry County)
  • West View Elementary School (Spartanburg, Spartanburg County)
“Congratulations to the students, teachers and staff at these great schools on being named a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School for their hard work and dedication to serving students and families in our state,” said Senator Tim Scott, a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. “Education is the foundation for success, and has the power to truly change lives. The six South Carolina schools awarded this prestigious honor are demonstrating academic excellence and closing the achievement gap for students, and I look forward to their continued success in the future.”
Created in 1982, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private schools for their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
To honor the schools selected, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan will host two representatives from each selected school in Washington, DC for a Recognition Ceremony on November 10th and 11th. Each school will receive a plaque and a flag to signify its status as a National Blue Ribbon School.
