Executive director of Mental Health America of Aiken County recognized for efforts

Bonnie Fulghum, the executive director of Mental Health American of Aiken County, was recently recognized by MHA of South Carolina. She was named the Affiliate of the Year for the state.

Fulghum joined MHA of Aiken County as executive director three years ago after spending 10 years at the Tri-Development Center.

During her time with MHA of Aiken County, she has made improvements to the organization’s programs, especially Nurture Home which helps women with mental illness find their footing.

During the month of May – which was Mental Health Awareness Month – MHA again ran Rocks of Hope in an effort to shine a light on mental health. As part of the program, rocks painted with uplifting messages were left around downtown, Hopelands Gardens and the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center.

This program has gone statewide because of its success. It was a simple feel-good event that made people smile and raise awareness about mental health illness.
