President Trump congratulates Senator Tim Scott at State of the Union Address

(WPDE) — Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) was recognized by President Donald Trump at the State of the Union address Tuesday night for his work on Opportunity Zones.

Opportunity Zones promote investment, economic growth and job creation in underdeveloped communities, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

“Jobs and investment are pouring into 9,000 previously-neglected neighborhoods thanks to Opportunity Zones, a plan spearheaded by Senator Tim Scott as part of our great Republican tax cuts,” President Trump said to the Senator in the gallery, who rose to standing ovations from other attendees.
