Sen. Scott Stands in Solidarity with Jewish Community at Chanukah in the Square
CHARLESTON, S.C. – On Sunday, December 10, 2023, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, spoke at Chanukah in the Square 2023 – hosted by Chabad of Charleston. During his remarks, Senator Scott expressed support for Israel and the Jewish people and condemned the antisemitic, pro-Hamas demonstrations taking place in the United States and around the world, especially at American colleges and universities.
“Your federal funding is not a right; it’s a privilege. What is a right is for every Jewish student to go to class or to a library and not have to fear for their lives. I would say to every student on college campus fomenting hatred and antisemitism and promoting Jewish genocide and talking about terrorism, if you are on a visa, your visa is not a right. It is a privilege,” said Senator Scott. “As we celebrate the Festival of Lights, my prayer is within my lifetime, we will see the end of antisemitism, bigotry and hatred.”
Senator Scott has championed the following legislation to support Israel and combat antisemitism:
- Introducing a resolution reaffirming economic ties between the U.S. and Israel.
- Cosponsoring the Israel Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2023 to provide $14.3 billion of aid to Israel.
- Championing the Stop Support for Hamas Act to block foreign aid benefitting Hamas.
- Leading introduction of the Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act to rescind federal education funding for colleges and universities that peddle antisemitism or authorize, fund or facilitate events that promote antisemitic violence.
- Advocating for passage of the Solidify Iran Sanctions Act to cement sanctions that restrict funding for Iran’s energy and weapons sectors, thereby curtailing the regime’s ability to finance terrorism and develop its nuclear program.
- Introducing the Revoke Iranian Funding Act to freeze $6 billion released to Iran and probe additional Iranian assets.
