Scott, Cotton, Colleagues Introduce Legislation to Sanction ICC

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, joined Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) in introducing the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act, which would sanction the International Criminal Court (ICC) if it attempts to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute Americans or our allies. This legislation would also revoke U.S. visas for those involved in prosecuting U.S., Israeli, or any other allied citizen wrongfully targeted by the ICC.

“The ICC’s attempt to equate the brutal actions of a terrorist organization to the rightful defense of a democratic people is appalling,” said Senator Scott. “The court’s illegitimate targeting of Israel should not be tolerated, and the Senate should take up this legislation immediately. This should not be a partisan issue.”

“The ICC is a kangaroo court that has no authority to target America or Israel. Chuck Schumer should take up this bipartisan, House-passed legislation to make clear we will punish this court if they target Americans or our allies,” said Senator Cotton.

Senators Scott and Cotton were joined by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) and Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), and Jim Risch (R-Idaho). The House passed the companion legislation led by Congressman Chip Roy (R-Texas).
