Office of Senator Tim Scott to Host Academy Nomination Information Sessions for Interested Students and Parents

Charleston, SC – The Office of U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) will host informational sessions and office hours for students interested in attending one of the four service academies – U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. These sessions, open to 8th-12th graders, will allow students and their families to learn about the overall nomination and application process and ask questions about attending a service academy.

“The four service academies have produced some of our country’s greatest officers and are instrumental in helping our country maintain the finest military in the world,” said Senator Scott. “There is no time like the present to start thinking about your future. I encourage South Carolinians who are interested in the academies to attend one of the information sessions that my offices will be hosting.”

Students interested in being considered for a nomination this year by Senator Scott must submit an application, SAT/ACT scores, two essays, high school transcripts, and three letters of recommendation by October 13, 2016.

These sessions will be led by staff and registration is not required. During the last academic year, Senator Scott nominated 50 students from across South Carolina to be considered for an appointment to one of the four service academies for the class of 2020.
