Sen. Scott Celebrates Historic Milestones

WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) issued the below statement ahead of the 119th Congress, where he will become the longest-serving Black Senator in the nation’s history. Senator Scott will also notably serve as the first Black Chairman of a Senate standing committee when he assumes the top spot on the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. Scott will remain focused on working on behalf of South Carolinians and advancing his Opportunity Agenda to ensure every American can reach their version of the American Dream. 

“As we begin the 119th Congress, Senate Republicans have high enthusiasm and are focused on delivering for the American people! This Congress, I am thrilled to serve as the Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee,” said Senator Scott. “My goal is simple: make America work for Americans. As we get to work cleaning up the mess from the previous administration, I look forward to working with President Trump on his priorities, including paving a path for all Americans to have the necessary tools and resources to achieve their version of the American Dream. We will unlock opportunity, strengthen our nation, and make America the shining city on the Hill again.” 

Senator Scott has been named to six committees for the 119th Congress, including the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, on which he’ll serve as Chairman:

  • Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs 
  • Committee on Finance 
  • Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions 
  • Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship 
  • Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs 
  • Special Committee on Aging 

Senator Scott will also serve as Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
