Sen. Scott meets with Trump NIH Nominee, Bhattacharya
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, met with Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, President Trump’s National Institutes of Health Director nominee.

“Enjoyed sitting down with Dr. Bhattacharya to discuss life expectancy, sickle cell disease gene therapies like using CRISPR, the fight to cure cancer, and the widespread effects of learning loss from COVID. A strong NIH is essential for South Carolina’s public universities and colleges like MUSC, USC, and Clemson to continue their research efforts that pave the way for innovation. Science should be a vehicle to expand freedom, not limit it,” said Senator Scott. “American medical innovation should and will allow us to address challenges with real solutions. President Trump is assembling an incredible team that will right the wrongs of the last four years. With Dr. Bhattacharya leading the NIH, I am confident that our future will only get stronger.”
