Sens. Scott, Booker Introduce Resolution Celebrating Black History Month

WASHINGTON–U.S. Senators Tim Scott (R-SC) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) today introduced a resolution celebrating Black History Month and the contributions made by Black Americans throughout history. This resolution seeks to recognize the importance of Black History Month as an opportunity to celebrate the wealth of history provided by Black culture and to reflect on our shared history and the path ahead.

“Black History Month allows us to learn from our past and see opportunities for our future. While our nation has made amazing progress over the past few decades, there is still room to grow. We draw on the strength of folks like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Friendship Nine, Cleveland Sellers, and so many other civil rights heroes as we march forward into the future. I am optimistic that our future remains bright,” said Senator Scott.

“Black history is American history—generations of Black Americans throughout our country’s history have worked, struggled and sacrificed to make this nation a more perfect union,” said Senator Booker. “Celebrating Black history means honoring the innumerable contributions Black Americans have made and continue to make, and recognizing the work left to do towards making this a country of liberty and justice for all.”

Official cosponsors of the resolution include U.S. Senators Tim Scott (R-SC), Kamala Harris (D-CA), Rand Paul (R-KY), Jack Reed (D-RI), Tom Carper (D-DE), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Doug Jones (D-AL), Ed Markey (D-MA), Bob Casey (D-PA), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Chris Coons (D-DE), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Patty Murray (D-WA), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Bernard Sanders (I-VT), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-NY), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), David Perdue (R-GA), Mark Warner (D-VA), Ben Cardin (D-MD), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Susan Collins (R-ME), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Gary Peters (D-MI), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Roy Blunt (R-MO), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Rob Portman (R-OH), John Cornyn (R-TX), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), James Lankford (R-OK), Richard Shelby (R-AL), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Dan Sullivan (R-AK).
